Overview
At the Evergreen Academy of Music our lessons are fun and enjoyable. Our students choose the songs they want to play. You can choose to learn the music of Disney or Broadway Musicals to Bach, Beethoven or Brahms and everything in between! We also use method books to structure lessons. We will introduce you to the fundamentals of sight reading, technique and theory, and incorporate your favorite songs into your lessons.
Many people try to learn clarinet on their own or with a teacher who doesn’t motivate them. As a result, they struggle to stay motivated to practice and improve. We use a step by step approach where students learn one new skill at a time so they can be successful. More importantly, you choose the music you want to play so you love learning. We also use a personalized learning program so every student is treated as a unique individual.
Do I have to know how to read music?
No. Beginners are welcome! We have a proven system for teaching anyone to learn to read music.
How long does it take to learn to play clarinet?
There is no set answer of how long it takes to learn to play. With regular practice a basic level of playing can be accomplished in 6 months. Most of our students take lessons on a long term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
Are there clarinet recitals?
Absolutely! Every December and May, our students have the opportunity to perform in recitals. Unlike most of our competitors, we do not charge students a fee to perform. And admission is free, so you can invite all of your family and friends. We encourage our students to perform in the recitals because they’re an opportunity for students to share what they’ve learned with their family and friends.

We teach all styles, from rock, pop and jazz to country, blues and classical.
How are our students different?
Our students are motivated to practice because they play songs that they know and like. They feel a sense of accomplishment when they finish songs and move on to new more difficult songs.
What will I learn from clarinet lessons at the Academy?
Whether you want to learn Broadway music or Mozart, we are dedicated to helping you become the clarinetist you want to be. You will learn to read music, create a clear beautiful tone, and play your favorite songs.
We teach lessons with a focus on learning and performing songs as well as understanding music. You will start playing in your very first lesson. We’ll help you play songs you love while teaching you the fundamentals so you keep improving every single week!
I don’t have any musical background or ability. Can I still help my child practice?
Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are practicing a certain number of times per week the student will progress. The #1 way to support your child is by showing enthusiasm for their playing and progress. Parents can sit in on their child's music lessons to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.
